Thank you Jane Rasa and Nick and for donating
this photograph . "It's a typical Alfred Cheney Johnston photo, the
ivy in the background, the pose."
The history behind this photograph as given by Jane is below:
"About 2 years ago on a Usenet news group, someone uploaded hundreds
of pics in a 'Ziegfeld Stars' series that included other silent movie
stars also.
Me and a friend of mine have spent the last 2 years restoring them and
are in the final restoration phase now where I am putting the final touches
on them and researching the Stars section of the series (it's divided
into 3 sections - Stars, Models - non-risque, Models-risque) with most
of the photos being by Alfred Cheney Johnston, the official photographer
of the Ziegfelds. The photo of Doris is very typical of his style and
is most likely by him.
The research and final restoration of this first Stars section has by
far
been the most interesting part. It's really made the pics come alive for
me and I've become quite addicted to them! No one gets past me without
hearing about Ziegfeld pics hahaha! Many of the names were wrong or incomplete
and I've had to go on quite a hunt to get info on the Stars. It's quite
involved and interesting and I've learned so much these past 2 years about
Photoshop and the Ziegfeld Follies it's quite amazing to me. I have always
loved the old movies and stars and collect pics of them but this is a
tiny niche. There is a major book coming out on the lost photos of Alfred
Cheney Johnston in February with the Ziegfeld photos in them.
Nick has continued to collect them from everywhere and we now have about
500 photos in our collection, mostly unnamed models.
We are doing this all for free, donating the pics to a vintage
website where the owner does it for the love of it and gives all the pics
away for free as well. Then I'll be donating the info I've collected to
Wikipedia which is run by volunteers."
Thank you Jane and Nick!
