Egypt During the Reign of Akhenaton

Suppiluliuma

A Hittite King, contemporary with Amenhophis III, Akhenaton and Tutankhamon.

By his aggressive policy he created the new Hittite hegemony in Asia. In forcing the Mitanni under his power as well as the Amurru (and their vassals in Phoenicia and Palestine), he became a serious threat to the Egyptian Empire. Conflict between the two great powers broke out at the time of the XIX Dynastry Pharaohs.

SUPPILULIUMA took advantage of the political unrest and peaceful policies of Akhenaton.

After the death of Akhenaton he became the Lord of Mittani - a nation without support of her allies, the Egyptians - and the Kings of Mittani then became vassals of the Hattusi.
