Egypt During the Reign of Akhenaton

Gilukhipi

A wife of
Amenhophis III

Daughter of the Mittani King Shuttarna.

The king made a special issue of commemorative scarabs on the occasion of his marriage, where he recorded that the princess was escorted by 317 ladies-in-waiting.

At this time it was custom for the Pharaoh to marry at least one member of the Mittani royal house for political reasons.

The introduction of Mittani blood into the royal household could have accounted in part for the change in ideas and looks of the Royal family towards the end of the eighteenth dynasty.
