The god Amon "the hidden one" had a cult connected with his worship that served only to maintain an ambiguity more useful to the priesthood than helpful to the evolution of religious thought. The Solar Globe - symbol of Aton - a visible aspect of the hidden diety who manifested himself as the sun ra and whose nightly avartar was Osiris provided a symbol of the sublime power upon which the universe and whole life depended.
